Carhartt WIP – FW2019
For Fall/Winter 2019, Carhartt WIP
delivers its most multi-faceted collection to date, with garments ranging from reworked classics in rich checks and Car-Lux jacket inspired outdoor-wear to a melange of sportswear and military references.
These comprise to create a varied yet cohesive collection, which feels both contemporary and unmistakably Carhartt WIP.
As ever, many of the pieces draw from a timeless, work-inspired aesthetic. This sees both the Michigan Chore Coat and Detroit Jacket presented in a new, aged Dearborn canvas, which has been crafted from organic cotton that has been through a laser treatment process, creating a patina-like effect.
Elsewhere, there’s a heavy focus on check and houndstooth. These classic patterns are applied to pieces that carry a signature Carhartt WIP style. The Master Pant is case in point, created in a dogtooth wool, and named the Norvell Pant.
From après-ski to after hours, Paninaro to football casuals, F/W19 also features a mix of nostalgic sports-wear references, ltered through a modern-day lens. These are pieces which revel in the idea of repurposed sportswear, as performance-wear becomes casual-wear. Key to this is the Dexter Jacket and the eece Prentice Pullover, which channel the bold block colors and technical fabrics of early aughts mountaineering jackets.
As part of the seasonal Military program, there is the introduction of a seasonal real-tree camou age – a new, custom motif unique to this Carhartt WIP collection. Additionally, there’s an injection of seasonal graphics, such as the ‘Protect and Survive’ emblem, which riffs on 1970s public safety pamphlets.
Taking inspiration from combat divers and arctic frogmen, there’s also a focus on utilitarian fabrics and detailing. As such, there are down jackets made from water repellent tech-fabrics, as well as a selection of pieces which focus on soft-shell fabrics, taking cues from the iconic Carhartt WIP Car-Lux jacket and adapting it to a contemporary sportswear look.
