HELP SUPPORT VOLUNTEER-BUILT SKATEPARKS IN NEPAL
In November 2016, Make Life Skate Life partnered with The Community Collective, ALIS, and the skateboarders of Kathmandu, Nepal to create the city’s first community built skatepark. During the one-week project, a series of concrete ramps were added to an existing skateboarding space in the city center. Local skateboarders had the opportunity to learn from experienced builders and help create their own skatepark. This was the kick-off to a much larger vision to enable youth access to skateboarding across Nepal.
Our next step is to construct a 500 sq. meter concrete skatepark at the Olympic sports park in Pokhara, Nepal’s second largest city, in Spring 2017. A significant skateboarding community already exists in the city, thanks to a small skatepark built on private land, but which is unfortunately in poor condition and will soon be demolished when the lease on the land expires. During construction, local skateboarders will work together with our international team of volunteer skatepark builders and to create a permanent, free of charge, skateboarding facility for the youth of Nepal.
